Now that you have analyzed the political activism of the Red Power Movement, it is time to think about contemporary issues or experiences your community may face. What are the current socio/political issues by your community? Brainstorm some goals of a possible current social movement.
You are required to create a flyer/poster (ex: Document H) advertising a protest event. You must address the purpose of the event and who you are recruiting to help/participate with the event.
Then you may choose from one of these options: 1. Create a podcast that explains the purpose of your community action. (Ex: Red Man Laughing-Season 1&2) 2. Create your own "manifesto" or 20 point proposal (See the 20 Point Position Paper from the Trail of Broken Treaties). 3. Interview an activist in your community - Ask questions surrounding the topics about what it takes to organize a protest/event. After the interview and/or with the community activist's help, create your own plan of action. 4. Interview a participant/elder from the Red Power Movement. Create a narrative using text, film, or audio about their experiences and what they wish/expect from future generations. 5. Hashtag/Digital Activism: create a hashtag that will go along with your movement. You will also need to write a blog post about the significance and reasoning for your hashtag and movement. Please list at least three bloggers you would reach out to about publishing your blog post and why you chose them. (Ex: #idlenomore) 6. Write a song that addresses current social issues or expereinces, and can be used to inspire and mobilize your community.
